I've looked the Queen of England right in the eye. Several years ago on a trip to the UK before I moved here, I was in the city of Hull, which was celebrating its 800th anniversary of obtaining its town charter. The Queen was visiting, so I ended up being one of the people lining the streets. As luck would have it, I ended up standing behind a group of children with flowers for the Queen. She sees them, makes a beeline for them, and suddenly she and I are within six feet of each other, making eye contact. She has the most penetrating blue eyes I've ever seen. Then she was off again, with Prince Phillip behind her, hands clutched behind his back.

Two weeks later I was in London, walking down the Strand to St. Paul's, when the Queen and Phillp drive by, on their way to a service in the cathedral (they were being driven, obviously). She didn't appear to notice me. Maybe.

I became friends with my favorite singer from the 60's.  Brenda Lee.  Sometimes I still can't believe it.  I have been to her home in Nashville, TN several times and she calls me and emails me.  On my 60th birthday she gave me a gold record of Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree.

I spent the summer of 1969 working for the Navy -- in the Mojave Desert.

I witnessed history in the making. I was one mile from the Pentagon when the plane hit it on 9/11. I was on the top floor of a 12-story building when the plane went in. It is possible that the plane flew over my building first, but I'm not sure. It was a horrible experience. I stayed in the D.C. area for 3 more days and then was able to get a rental car to drive back to Alabama.

I prayed for my son's safety when he was in the Navy. When my youngest son first joined the Navy, I had no idea that he could be in danger aboard a ship out to sea, several thousand miles away. One night, I was awoken out of a sound sleep, by him calling out my name, "Mom." So, I immediately started praying for him. I prayed for the Blood of Jesus to be put on him, as well as surrounding angels to protect him, and then I went back to sleep. It wasn't until several months later, when he was home on leave, that the conversaton came up between him and me. I told him that I had heard him call my name and that he had awoken me up out of a sound sleep one night, and I had prayed for him. He then told me the circumstances. He was out to sea, aboard his ship, a frigate. It was the first time that he had been under real enemy fire, and he had called out my name, "Mom." I am so thankful to the Lord that he was protected, as well as all his shipmates and none were killed or injured in that incident.  It didn't matter how far away he was, my prayers were heard and answered by the Lord. Praise the Lord.

I soloed 400 feet of Table Rock Mountain in Linville Gorge, North Carolina. I was the only one on the mountain and I was using my rope and a device that I invented to catch me had I fallen.

Since turning 53 in 2002, I have made 63 trips from Jacksonville to various mountains to do rock climbing. It keeps me alive and kicking.
